Chill Foundation and Woodward Partner to Inspire Young People

Chill Foundation and Woodward Partner to Inspire Young People Through Skateboarding and Build a More Equitable Boardsports Community.

(Park City, Utah) – June 28, 2023Chill Foundation and Woodward , the global leader in action sports experiences, are proud to announce a new partnership this summer, awarding 20 Chill participants scholarships to attend weeklong summer skateboarding camp experiences at Woodward West and Woodward Pennsylvania. The new partnership illustrates Woodward and Chill Foundation’s shared commitment to making boardsports more accessible by lowering the barrier for entry for more young people.

“We recently completed a major renovation and transformation of our facilities at Woodward Pennsylvania and Woodward West focused on creating more and better environments that lean into progression and lower the barrier of entry for new and beginner skateboarders,” said Phoebe Mills, VP of Camp Experiences & Programming at Woodward Global. “There is no better way to celebrate the opening of these new facilities than partnering with Chill to bring underserved youth to camp for an unforgettable experience.”

The 20 Chill scholarships recipients will experience a variety of skate program offerings, including a Learn to Skate and Trick clinic at Woodward Pennsylvania with visiting VIP athlete and Chill Ambassador Chris “Cookie” Colbourn, in the brand-new Progression Centre. This indoor multisport hub has 24,000 square feet of space, built with progression and exploration in mind, by including more entry-level features to create a less intimidating and more inviting environment for learning and progression.  Chris “Cookie” Colburn is a part of the Worble Skate team, and has been a Chill Ambassador for years, mentoring Chill participants in Burlington, Vermont, and Los Angeles. In addition, each of the Chill scholarship kids will receive a brand-new complete skateboard and helmet, courtesy of Chill.

The scholarships will be funded in part by Chill’s Jake Burton Carpenter Fund, which was created in honor of the late co-founder, and funds increased programming for Chill alumni to participate in more immersive opportunities in the sport through advanced coaching, instruction, and community engagement. Woodward aligns with this goal to keep inspiring progression on and off the board by offering camps that support young people in building new skills, building self-confidence and soaring higher than they ever thought possible.

“We’re excited to expand our Woodward partnership with the addition of summer camp experiences for Chill youth across the US! Thanks to scholarships from Woodward and support from the Jake Burton Carpenter Fund, youth from Los Angeles and New York City are heading to Woodward’s best in class, weeklong camps to get advanced coaching on their new skateboards,” said Lindsay O’Brien, Chill’s VP of Operations. “Jake believed in fun above all else and we’re stoked to partner with Woodward in continuing his legacy.”
