About Chill Vancouver

 

 

Chill Vancouver operates year-round youth development programs through boardsports. Our target demographic are youth 10-18 years old, from vulnerable neighbourhoods & households, or those struggling with mental health and addiction. We use the power of board sports to teach life skills, build confidence, and provide a safe & inclusive space for learning. 

Chill uses Positive Youth Development (PYD) techniques throughout our programming to inspire youth working through adversity, and support them with opportunities to build resiliency through every aspect of their lives. We run snowboarding, skateboarding and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) programs in the winter, summer, and fall seasons, reaching 150+ local youth in our communities. Our programs utilize a 6-day curriculum, where a new life skill is introduced to the youth through discussion, hands-on activity, and on-board progression.

Our themes are: Respect, Patience, Persistence, Responsibility, Courage, and Pride.

Snow

Located at Cypress Mountain Resort, our six-week snowboard program runs two evenings a week from January-March. The entire program, including transportation, equipment, lessons and lift tickets, are provided at no cost to the youth involved. Program participants meet at Thunderbird Community Center in Vancouver, and ride as a group to and from the mountain. The coach bus will be used to facilitate our daily discussions and activities.

Skate

Our six-day skateboard program takes place September-October, running two sessions, each 2 days per week for 3 weeks. The entire program costs are covered for participants, including equipment and skate park lessons. Program participants will meet at the Landyachtz Factory Store in Vancouver, and learn as a group indoors and at outdoor skateparks. The park will be used to facilitate our daily discussions and activities.

Stand-Up PaddleBoard

Our six-day SUP program takes place July-August, running two sessions, each 2 days per week for 3 weeks at Ecomarine Paddlesports The entire program costs are covered for participants, including equipment and on-water lessons. Program participants will meet at the beach in Vancouver, and learn as a group on-water. The beach will be used to facilitate our daily discussions and activities.
